The Creation of Adam

The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo is one of the most famous Biblical artworks in history. The painting is said to depict the moment when God created Adam by giving him life. Michelangelo's famous painting depicts God floating, surrounded by a red cloth, reaching out to Adam; giving him the divine gift. However, when one takes a closer look at the painting; a secret message hidden by Michelangelo gives The Creation of Adam a new meaning.

A doctor in the 1990's realized the cloth floating behind God in the painting was not a cloth; instead, it was a representation of the human brain. After the finding, scholars decided to take a closer look at the painting. They theorized that Michelangelo was trying to communicate the idea that everything which makes us human comes from within the mind, not from a  divine power above. Michelangelo's ideas were not the norm for his time, to say the least, he was going up against the church's beliefs which is why he decided to hide his ideas in his paintings.

Michelangelo was ahead of his time when it came to God's influence and the power of the human mind. However, this does not mean he was wrong. Everything that makes us human originates in the mind. I think that people are too quick to look for answers and strength from up above. When in actuality, those things can originate from their own minds; which is what virtue, resilience, and motivation are.

A lot of people in this world spend their whole lives searching for guidance and meaning in their life. I think that a more achievable goal is to go after the surest form of one’s self. The form of yourself that is the most comfortable in its own skin. The person you want to be someday. That version of yourself is waiting within your mind for you to unlock. When you find the surest form of yourself, there is no need to find meaning from somewhere else.

Fun fact: Michelangelo never married and lived to be 88-years-old.
